ESS Council Elects New Chair and Vice Chair

Today the ESS Council elected Robert McGreevy as its new Chair and Andrea Fischer as Vice Chair.

They will succeed current Chair and Vice Chair, Beatrix Vierkorn-Rudolph and Kurt Clausen, whose mandate will end today.

Robert McGreevy is currently interim Director of the STFC Ada Lovelace Centre which provides research software engineering and data management capabilities for the UK national neutron, synchrotron and laser facilities. He chairs the project board for UK in-kind contributions to ESS, the ESS In Kind Review Committee, and the J-PARC International Advisory Committee.
McGreevy has over 40 years experience in neutron scattering and has held senior management positions in facilities in Sweden, the US and the UK. He has been involved with the ESS organisation since its start in 1992 and was one of the founders of ESS-Scandinavia, which eventually led to ESS being sited in Lund.

McGreevy is a British citizen. He holds a PhD in Physics from Oxford University.

Andrea Fischer

Andrea Fischer

Andrea Fischer is currently Head of Division for European Coordination and Education in the EU at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Her previous positions in the same Ministry include Head of Division for “Large International Research Facilities; DESY, GSI” and “Universe and Matter”.
Fischer has been the German delegate in several research Infrastructure governing bodies such as ESS, FAIR, CTAO BGR and research infrastructure policy bodies such as GSO and ESFRI.

Fischer is a German citizen. She holds a PhD in Law from Passau University/ Université de Strasbourg.
