For a popular science overview, see ESS Science in Everyday Life.
ESS will be a prominent part of the future landscape of European research infrastructures, providing experimental possibilities to researchers from academia as well as industry. To ensure success, the development of ESS has to be governed by the scientific needs of the future users. To this end, we engage in a number of activities: we pursue scientific liaison and outreach, we organise seminars, and we support conferences and workshops. The Scientific Advisory Committee consists of prominent researchers from around the world, actively providing input into the development of the facility. Our scientists maintain their own research programmes, and our extensive network of collaborators ensures that we remain an integral part of the European scientific community.
We are also planning the future support laboratories and facilities for ESS, designed to enhance the possibilities for science using neutrons.
